What are France Excellence Summer Schools?

France Excellence Summer Schools Program is led by The French Embassy in China and Campus France. It is aimed at students enrolled in a master's degree in a Chinese University, interested in following a PhD in France.

France Excellence Summer Schools (master’s degree level) are taught in English by professors-researchers from French universities of international reputation. The summer schools are made up of guided practical work, training modules to introduction to research, and a first introduction to French language and culture. Taking part to these summer schools must give candidates the opportunity to identify a potential research subject and a thesis supervisor.

 

Microwaves, Signal Processing & Diagnostic for Aerospace Engineering Summer School at a glance :

The MSPD AE summer school takes place during 4 weeks in July 2018.

It offers high-level courses and mini-projects, taught in English, meetings with French, European or international researchers as well as industrials in the context of visits or Conferences.
The organization in 2018 will also benefit from a major event in the field of Science : the holding of the 8th Edition of the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF), with Toulouse as THE European City of Science 2018. Students will have access to conferences, workshops on the theme “sharing science : towards new horizons", and real opportunities for meetings and emulation with different leading scientific actors.
During the month of course, an initiation to research will be offered to the students, through the realization of mini project and personal research projects, allowing them to implement their learning.

Two research laboratories of Toulouse will support this summer school, to allow students to discover the world of research in aeronautical engineering and space around signals and electrical / electronic systems.
Students attending this school will be able to meet and exchange with PhD students from our institutes and laboratories, especially for those who would like to prepare a PhD in France.

The program includes cultural visits accompanied by the engineering students of our institute but also by Sino-speaking lecturers / researchers from our laboratories. These cultural activities will allow Chinese students to discover our beautiful Region of Occitanie, its wonderful cultural heritage and delicious gastronomy (wines and terroir) but also Bordeaux and the vineyards of Bordeaux, ending with 2 days visiting Paris.

This summer school is reserved to Chinese master students. The total number of places is limited to 10.

Training content

Scientific syllabus

The courses encompass 3 scientific topics for aeronautical engineering and space : Microwave techniques, Signal processing, diagnostic of dynamic systems.

1. Introduction to microwave techniques :
- Propagation and radiation of electromagnetic wave
- Passive components
- Antennas systems
- Computer aided design for microwave component for aerospace application
- Microwave material interaction

2. Signal and image processing :
- Continuous and discrete signal representation
- Sampling and reconstruction
- Digital filtering
- Image analysis and processing for aerospace application

3. Diagnosis and health monitoring of electromechanical systems :
- Degradation and faults in electromechanical systems, static converters, passive components (capacitors and inductors), cables and insulators, mainly for aerospace industry
- Introduction to diagnosis, supervision and health monitoring, principles and examples of existing protections and monitoring solutions
- Introduction to dependability
- Classification of diagnosis approaches : model and signal based diagnosis methods, examples of degradation monitoring and fault detections

Research projects are proposed in order to apply the theoretical aspects seen during the courses. Practical works and workshops will concern microwave techniques, signal processing and diagnostics. These projects will give rise to oral presentations, evaluated at the end of the school by a jury composed of teacher-researchers and researchers from our Institutes, in conditions close to the French doctorate scholarship competition.

 

Cultural syllabus

- Courses of French as a Foreign Language are included in the program (21 hours).

- External activities: Tourist Rally to discover the city of Toulouse, visit of Cité de l'Espace and Aeroscopia museums, visits of Carcassonne, Albi and Bordeaux cities, and 2 days in Paris.

 

The final program will be known beginning of April 2018.
