Overview

Presentation

The Master of Science in Water Engineering and Water Management aims to train leaders in water management thanks to its courses offer oriented towards industrial needs and linked with recent scientific progress. It allows students to receive a multidisciplinary approach on water issues and to develop skills in treatment engineering, water cycle and water management.

The Master of Science Water Engineering and Water Management focuses on chemical engineering and hydrology applied to unit operations of water treatment and water sciences (aquatic system and its preservation). The purpose of the lectures is concerned with biological and chemical reactors for pollution removal, unit operations of separation for the high quality water production (membrane separation, adsorption…), hydrology and ecology for the management of aquatic system. In addition, students will follow courses on international regulations, environmental management and project management to be able to face water-related societal, governmental and industrial stakes. Along the two years of formation, the student will have strength interactions with industrial partners and research laboratories.

Objectives

The objective of this Master degree is to train high-level students with a transversal vision in water engineering thanks to a special training, which includes treatment, network and resources aspects. The most important objective is to put an emphasis on the issues of rational use of water resources. The master will provide students with shared theoretical and practically-oriented knowledge in the field of water engineering and water management.

Students in the program should acquire the ability to design water engineering projects and to realize these projects efficiently in line with the principles of sustainability (integration of energy efficiency and mass/energy valorisation).

Training content

Organization of the program:

MSc Water Engineering and Water Management is a two-year program: the 1st year is called M1 and the second one – M2. The courses during the first three semesters concern basic aspects of mass and momentum transfer, pollution analysis, water ecology, hydrology with dedicated practical training. Finally, the relations with industry and research are important:  industrial and research projects are proposed during the two years of Master Program and students must complete a 6-month internship during the 4th semester .

Training program:

Semester 1:
Scientific basis, cultural integration, linguistics and methodology.

Semester 2:
Core courses on waste water treatment and waste water management including energy and mass valorisation

Semester 3:
Water production and water resource management including desalination and water reuse

Semester 4:
Graduation Internship (5-6 months) in academic Laboratories or in Industrial companies.

The complete syllabus can be found here.

Trainings

Internship project (6 months) in industry (production, offices, R & D) or academic research laboratories

Fees & Funding

Tuition fees

The annual tuition fees are 9000€.

Living costs

Average monthly living costs for a student in Toulouse is between 700 and 1000€.  The amount depends a lot on the accommodation you will choose.

Detailed information about living expenses can be found in the Student Guide.

Scholarships from INP/INSA

Acceptance to scholarships from INP-INSA can reduce the tuition fees down to 5230€ or 5473 per year, depending on student's status.

Scholarship through a reduction of the fees can be offered to students coming from partner universities.

Exceptionally the same kind of scholarship can be given to top level students.

All the students enrolled with us will be given the Toul'Box full pack with a private pick-up at the airport.

Other scholarships:

  • Scholarships from the French government (Eiffel scholarship, embassies…)
  • Scholarships from the European Union (Erasmus, Leonardo…)
  • Scholarships from the French regional authorities (town halls, regions…)
  • Scholarships from academic labs or industrial companies.

For other scholarship information, we recommend to check Campus Bourse.

Student Life

For FREE ! All the students enrolled with this Master of Science will be given the Toul'Box "All In" pack with a private pick-up at the airport or train station in Toulouse (working days and working hours).

Accommodation

Students studying at INP-ENSEEIHT can apply for a CROUS student residence. Unfortunately, it cannot always ensure accommodation for all international students. However, several other accommodation options are available.

There are several possibilities of accommodation at INSA:

The R1 CROUS-INSA residence: Centrally located on the campus of INSA Toulouse and offers 221 student rooms, which are attributed in priority to students enrolled at INSA on the basis of social criteria. Rents range from 189.50€ to 332.50€. To apply for this residence, please click here.

Part-time jobs

If you a European national, you do not have any work restrictions in France.

If you are not a EU citizen, normally you will have a long-term student visa (VLS-TS) which allows international students to work for 960 hours over a one-year period (on average, 20 hours per week). Internships are not included in this limit.

Part-time student jobs are available in Toulouse, from bar work to babysitting, for students who speak at least a minimum of French. Announcements are put up on campus announcements boards, and it is recommended that students distribute their CVs in person to local bars and restaurants.

Student clubs

Life at INSA and INP is very rich thanks to the many clubs and associations which allow students to take part in variety of humanitarian, sports, economic or cultural activities.

Student associations and clubs create a friendly atmosphere on campus and organize important events. Click here to find the complete list of student clubs.

Good to know: INP and INSA welcome each year many international students. They have a dedicated team to help new incoming students with practical and administrative formalities.

Further studies

Thanks to the high scientific level of the Master, which courses are based on international research laboratories and their competences (LISBP and IMFT), students willing to continue their studies may have the opportunity to prepare a PhD in one of the laboratories (especially in SOPHYESYMBIOSE and TIM research groups).

Career prospects

After two years of training, students will become experts in Water Engineering and Water Management. They will be able to hold senior positions and be in charge of the development of technical projects linked to resource management. Moreover, they will be able to conduct installations in water companies and “eco-industries”. Students may also apply for positions such as environmental and water advisors in companies and institutions. To finish, the high level of this Master program will allow them to continue their career in industrial or academic research and development centres.

Recruiting companies: VEOLIA, SUEZ, TOTAL, ..

Graduate residence permit

The graduates of this program can apply for a residence permit "recherche d'emploi / création d'entreprise" ("job search / business creation") for graduate students. This residence permit allows students to remain in France for up to one year to look for employment.

At the end of your studies, if you have obtained your diploma, you can apply for a residence permit "recherche d'emploi / création d'entreprise" (except Algerian students). This residence permit replaces the temporary residence permit that was previously issued to graduate students ("APS Master").

This residence permit can also be requested from abroad: if you leave France at the end of your studies, you can apply for the residence permit "recherche d'emploi / création d'entreprise" at the French consulate in your home country or your country of residence within 4 years after graduation.
