The Systems Engineering Master degree program is a one- year professional course of study, designed in partnership with the industry.

Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary discipline of engineering combining all sciences and technologies into integrated team from design, to development, up to operations and disposal of competitive and complex systems. Systems Engineering approach is the capacity to federate and control various, interweaving and complementary engineering activities. This approach goal is to deliver satisfying systems, on-time, within expected budget, with the level of quality and performances meeting requirements of an open and competitive market.

Systems Engineering process implements technical processes (requirement engineering, design, integration, verification, validation, etc.) as well as project management processes, agreement processes and enterprise processes.

Objectives

The Systems Engineering Master aims at providing worldwide industry with skilled professionals in Systems Engineering able to specify, design, deploy and maintain competitive and complex systems, fit to purpose, in various industrial sectors: space, aeronautics, air traffic control, land transport systems, maritime transport, health industry, energy, communication systems, etc.

Organization of the program:

The Systems Engineering Master degree program is a one- year program which is divided into 2 semesters.

First semester: academic session of around 500 h, provided by ISAE-SUPAERO’s permanent professors and experts from industry bringing current knowledge and experience, including: lectures, tutorials, industrial study cases. And 45h devoted to the coaching of the Integrated Team Project run all along the semester.

Second semester: students have to conduct a professional thesis in aerospace industry or in laboratory, in France or abroad, supervised by a tutor from the host organization

Access condition

Admission requirements

In order to apply for the Systems Engineering Master one must hold a Master’s degree, or an equivalent degree in science or engineering, or a Bachelor degree with at least 3 years of professional experience.

Admissions committees

There are several admissions sessions for the Systems Engineering Master. 
The application files filled in ‘on line’ are analyzed by an admissions committee which meets in accordance to the schedule presented here. It is highly recommended to apply as soon as possible.

Language requirements

All students must provide an English Language Certificate, even if their previous course was taught in English:

  • TOEFL IBT (Inst.Code: 9820): 85 or
  • TOEIC: 785 or
  • IELTS: 6.5 or
  • CAE/FCE Cambridge: 170.

(Citizens of the following countries are exempt from the test: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States)

Required documents:

  • a resume,
  • a cover letter,
  • a copy of your highest diploma or certificate of enrollment,
  • transcripts for the 3 last years,
  • English test results: TOEFL IBT (Inst.Code : 9820): 85 or TOEIC: 785 or IELTS: 6.5 or CAE/FCE Cambridge: 170,
  • GRE test results if taken (not mandatory)
  • application fee of €90.
  • 2 letters of recommendation sent directly by professors.

Documents have to be officially translated in French or English.

SAE-SUPAERO offers students a new campus and an outstanding living and learning environment including 6 new or totally renovated student residences.

Part-time jobs

If you a European national, you do not have any work restrictions in France.

If you are not a EU citizen, normally you will have a long-term student visa (VLS-TS) which allows international students to work for 960 hours over a one-year period (on average, 20 hours per week). Internships are not included in this limit.

Part-time student jobs are available in the institute (admission office, library, language dpt) or in Toulouse (from bar work to babysitting), for students who speak at least a minimum of French. Announcements are put up on campus announcements boards, and it is recommended that students distribute their CVs in person to local bars and restaurants.

Systems Engineering is now a real and permanent concern for any business players, from Major Governmental contractors, to equipment manufacturers, to prime contractor integrating systems, and services companies such as Airlines for instance.

Systems Engineering jobs are characterized by many disciplines:

  • multidisciplinary - mechanics, electronics, information technology, etc.,
  • strong interface with project management,
  • permanent concerns all along the life cycle of a system.

Need of Systems Architects is increasing for both industries developing, producing and maintaining large complex systems (aircraft, ships, military and defense systems, cars, etc.) and other industries developing and producing smaller high technology products (cameras, mobile phones, printers, computers, etc.).

This Master program offers students great opportunity to join Engineering Team Systems within industries in different economic sectors.

Graduate residence permit

The graduates of this program can apply for a residence permit "recherche d'emploi / création d'entreprise" ("job search / business creation") for graduate students. This residence permit allows students to remain in France for up to one year to look for employment.

At the end of your studies, if you have obtained your diploma, you can apply for a residence permit "recherche d'emploi / création d'entreprise" (except Algerian students). This residence permit replaces the temporary residence permit that was previously issued to graduate students ("APS Master").

This residence permit can also be requested from abroad: if you leave France at the end of your studies, you can apply for the residence permit "recherche d'emploi / création d'entreprise" at the French consulate in your home country or your country of residence within 4 years after graduation.
